Skyline Solar appoints former Electroglas CEO Thomas Rohrs as chief
1 July 2010

US solar array manufacturer Skyline Solar has appointed former CEO of wafer prober provider Electroglas, Thomas Rohrs, as its new CEO.

Prior to Skyline Solar, Rohrs spent three years as chairman and CEO of Electroglas. Prior to Electroglas, he served as an adviser and board member to a number of companies in the semiconductor, healthcare and energy markets.

Also joining Skyline Solar’s board of directors, Rohrs brings more than 30 years of technology executive management experience to Skyline Solar, which serves the commercial, industrial, government and utility markets.

He has spent the last 13 years as an executive, board member and adviser for companies in the semiconductor, renewable and solar energy industries including Applied Materials, Electroglas, Bloom Energy and Abound Solar.

Bob MacDonald, Skyline Solar’s co-founder and former CEO, will transition into the Skyline Solar CTO role following the appointment.

‘Having hit a number of critical product, financing and customer milestones over the past two years, Skyline Solar has reached an important inflection point in its growth,’ said Bill Keating, Skyline Solar’s executive chairman.

‘The addition of Tom means Skyline Solar’s future as a company has never been brighter.’

Rohrs joins Skyline Solar just weeks after the company completed the first commercial installation of its HGS 1000 system in Nipton, California.

The company was also recently awarded one of the first patents under the US Patent and Trademark Office’s (PTO) Green Technology Pilot Program, covering key elements of Skyline Solar’s HGS architecture.

It was founded in 2007 and is funded by early-stage investor NEA, other venture capital and strategic investors, and by a US Department of Energy grant.
