Vinayaka Chavithi or Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated on Shukla paksha Chaturthi in Bhadrapad month. Vinayaka Chavithi 2010 date is September 11. It is celebrated for more than 9 days (Ganapati Navaratri). Lord Ganesh is installed on Ganesh Chaturthi day in houses and in streets (Ganpati pandals) and worshipped for 12 days in 2010. Worshipped Ganesh idols are immersed in water on Anant Chaturdashi day.
Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated with utmost fervor in various cities and towns in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. In Hyderabad, Ganpati festival is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm where the Mammoth Ganesh idol is installed in Khairtabad. In 2010, Khairtabad Ganesh idol goes up to 50 feet and is known as Pushpak Ganapati.
