Tirupati priest booked for mortgagingChiranjeevi took out padayatra from Tirupati to Tirumala on Friday; and not for addressing any grievances of the people; but for safeguarding the sanctity of Tirumala temple which has earned a bad name because of various scandals in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, including disappearance of precious ornaments donated by Srikrishna Devaraya, emperor of Vijayanagara kingdom.
After garlanding the statue of Srikrishna Devaraya at Leelamahal Centre in Tirupati, Chiranjeevi started his padayatra to the Tirumala temple. He came down heavily on the irregularities committed by TTD chairman D K Audikesavulu Naidu and EO I Y R Krishna Rao, who give a lot of importance to VIPs like liquor baron Vijaya Mallya, but ignore ordinary pilgrims.
Chiranjeevi said that the TTD officials should remember that while the rich people donate five per cent of the total revenue to the temple, most of the revenue comes from middle and the poor class. He asked the TTD officials to stop falling at the feet of the rich people and licking their feet. He regretted that the temple authorities failed to preserve the ancient ornaments and prayed that only Lord Venkateshwara would be able to save Himself.
