Virender Sehwag reiterated here on Sunday that he is playing cricket only because he idol-worshipped Sachin Tendulkar.

The batting maestro from Mumbai is one century away from completing 50 Test centuries and five short of a century of centuries in international cricket (Test cricket and one-day internationals).

Responding to the potential world record feat by Tendulkar in the coming season, Sehwag said: “Only the God of cricket can do that. He is a perfect role model to emulate. If any cricketer most deserves to accomplish such a feat, it's Sachin Tendulkar.

“I am lucky to be playing cricket with him and I would like to say again that I am playing cricket and is here only because of him (Tendulkar).”

Exactly in the tenth year of his career in international cricket, Sehwag signed a five-year multi-crore brand endorsement contract with Professional Management Group (PMG) whose partners are Sunil Gavaskar, Sam Bulsara and Noomi Mehta.

This is PMG's first sports celebrity management deal in 25 years.

I also like Tendulkar and you. I remember 2003 world cup when your opnening pair was best. I always like both of you.

I love Tendulkar and Sehwag opening the batting but after retirement of Sachin and Sehwag who will take on the challenge to open batting during powerplays? Nowadays for us without Sehwag and Gambhir no other opening pair is that effective. So we should check our bench strength, in my opinion why shouldnt we bring back Yusuf Pathan and open the innngs wth him? He would be very effective in the power plays that everyone knows but why selectors are not convinced with his performance? Actually in my opinion that was not right decision to send Yusuf at 6 down because is very explosive batsmen and he can take on the bowler during powerplays quite easily and once he gets momentum no one could stop him .Why are selectors not giving a chance to Yusuf to open the batting?
