Jakarta Canceled On JAL' Volcano ConcernTOKYO Flight To Jakarta , 2010

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Japan Airlines Corp. canceled a flight bound for Jakarta, Indonesia Sunday as smoke and ash from volcano Mount Merapi in Central Java disrupted air traffic over the country.

The flight, which was scheduled to leave Tokyo's Narita International Airport in the morning, was one of several dozen international flights to and from Jakarta that airlines canceled on Saturday and Sunday.

Another JAL flight to Jakarta on Saturday morning did take off, but turned back due to volcanic smoke.

The Japanese airline's Monday flight is scheduled to go ahead, though the company's flight information service staff said the airline will closely monitor the volcano situation.

According to Narita Airport's flight information staff, the JAL flight was the only one canceled over the weekend because of the volcanic activity. Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's national carrier, was the only airline other than JAL to have Jakarta-bound flights from Narita on Saturday and Sunday, none of which were canceled, the airport said.
