Protest against curbs on entry during BC panel's visit
Tirupati, October 5 :
RESENTING imposition of restriction on entry of media photographers and videographers into the TTD administrative office here for coverage of the state BC Commission's review meetings, journalists, supported by political parties, staged a dharna at the main entrance of the TTD main office here today.
Addressing the demonstrators, jour nalist and political leaders criticised the TTD for barring journalists from covering the BC commission review meetings and demanded an unconditional apology from the the joint executive officer for insulting' mediapersons.
The dharna, which began at noon, continued till the evening. Journalists threatened to intensify their agitation from Wednesday as TTD officials did not relent on the demands from the scribes.
Meanwhile, the TTD defended its action on the ground that the media photographers were barred from entering the office after the BC commission chairman said that the commission would meet the press at Padmavathi Guest house at 4 pm after the review was over.
In a press release issued by the TTD public relations officer, he said that the securitymen at the main entrance told the mediapersons that they would be allowed if they got permission from officials.
When the PRO sought permission for mediamen's entry, the joint executive officer asked him to approach the BC Commission chairman. When the deputy executive officer (services) mentioned about the request of mediapersons, the BC Commission chairman, through TTD officials, revealed his intention to hold a briefing in the evening.
Further, the JEO also felt that it was not desirable to allow the media when the verification of certificates of selected candidates was going on, and he directed the PRO to explain the difficulty in allowing the media.
Maintaining that TTD was keen on having a cordial relation with the media, the TTD regretted that scribes raised objectionable slogans against TTD officials, prevented employees from entering the office and also broke the entrance glass door.
The TTD appealed to media-persons to cooperate with the temple administration.

BC panel asks TTD to regularise 110 barbers
Tirupati, October 5 :
The main objective of the BC Commission is to identify 'most backward classes' (MBCs) among the BCs and do justice to them by implementing the rule of reservation (RoR), state BC Commission chairman D Subraman-yam has said.
Speaking after reviewing the rule of reservation for BCs in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) today the commission directed the TTD to regularise the services of 110 Nayibrahmins (barbers) working in the organisation.
The TTD officials assured the committee to regularise their services in a month.
Later speaking to mediapersons, the chairman said the government had released a notification on identifying MBCs as it was noticed that only a few backward castes were cornering all the benefits of government schemes.
"In this connection, we are holding public hearings.
We have conducted tearings at Visakhapatnam and Tirupati so far and will take up the same in Hyderabad on November 10 for receiving representations and memoranda rom various BC sub castes.
