The deep depression over southeast Bay and adjoining southwest Bay moved slightly northwestwards over the same area and intensified into a cyclonic storm "Jal", a special weather bulletin said on Friday.
It was centred at 12:00noon about 1480 kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 1395 kms south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 1435 kms south of Mongla port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west- northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the storm centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gust/squalls. Sea will remain rough.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to lower distant cautionary signal number one but instead hoist distant warning signal number two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
